Additional Fight Notes:
Phase 2 – He’s in a permanent glory kill state. You can meathook + PB for all that armor back. But you’ll want
Phase 5 – Double BFG close, finishing off with a second of chaingun shield is becoming a favorite of mine!
A comment in the video below says that the boss possessed demons have 99.9% more damage resistance to BFG tendrils – so this means you’ll want to make that direct hit!
I’ve been a fan, as mentioned, of getting close. Even with the stun from the tendrils, 2 close direct hits is nearly enough to finish the pain elemental. Safer than far away maybe! I’m really liking that method!

UPDATE: INSIDE INFO on Proteh’s DLC Horde Mode Mod! [DOOM Eternal]
DLC 2 NEWS! Meathook Platforming CONFIRMED in DOOM Eternal!
Why ELITISM Hurts DOOM Eternal…
My name is Allstin, I make deep analytical commentary of topics worth talking about, primarily in the gaming sphere. DOOM Eternal is one of my favorite games, and I’ve been getting into Among Us recently too!
#DOOMEternalDLC #SamurMaykr #Allstin
Heya, I recall seeing somebody mention that the possessed during the final boss fight have a unique resistance to bfg and unmakyr shots (something like ~90%). Provided that's true, my plan if I ever get that far on a UN run is to save at least one bfg shot for the moment the pain elemental staggers. Like with other spirit fights, the idea is to make sure nothing at all is around the spirit to both have more time before it possesses something and to clear/stun any potential distractions.
I enjoyed the video but I think you should work out a sort of script that you follow. It was a bit annoying how you kept doubling back to correct yourself or kind of just rambling on about certain things. Also the constant switching from gameplay to facecam was a bit jarring. personally I think you should have just ditched the facecam altogether even if we were just starring at paused gameplay. Either way, not trying to put you down, just providing criticism.
i have been searching for hours for an in depth college class quality guide like this. I have actually been working on something like it for the icon of sin.. your discussion quality is off the charts. thank you.

You can BFG right before the second wave starts to get rid of the 2nd spirit
After doing some tests it looks to me like the fastest way by far to destroy the pain elemental is two direct bfgs into chaingun shield (Occasionally the bfgs can even allow a single ballista or super shotgun shot to kill the pain elemental, but it depends on tendril travel time so chaingun is much safer). It goes without saying, but direct bfg damage is exponentially higher than tendril damage on these guys. Chrono strike is great for lining up the shots. Be warned though, there appears to be a guaranteed crash if using microwave beam and chrono stasis on a spirt as a laser passes through the sprit's body (crashed 3 times for me specifically this way, dlc hasn't crashed any other time). Also note that the pain elemental favors moving left, and the next pain elemental spawns in that back left corner. If you land both shots you can kill it in about two seconds of chaingun time.
An unrelated but critical thing about phases 4 and 5 is that the melee damage from the boss and makyr angels is immense, and the angels will jump up to you in phase 5 if they don't have line of sight. I'd strongly suggest slowly following the pain elemental left as you injure it, and ask yourself, at all times, where that makyr angel is.
Good luck everyone!
I’m on ultra nightmare rn and am a little terrified to face him. Here’s to hoping, bros.
Spirit health bar doesn't make sense at all in the last phase XD I would rather have normal demon hp bar. Nice tutorial mate 👌 However I would add 1 more thing: USE MEATHOOK! It really helps in the last phase and on top of it you can restore armor if you need it 😇
I hate that they have the fuckin audacity to keep spawning in pain elementals and dread knights in the last phase
this guy is SERIOUSLY underrate, he deserves way more subs
Just finished this boss lastnight on Ultra Violence. I found myself living in the lower areas during that last phase especially. I'm not even sure why. My strat was to stay low and super shotgun meathook into the zombies for armor and health, and then ammo occasionally. But despite constantly moving and dashing and throwing out flame belch and grenades to stagger/get more armor pickups while circling around. I'd still take a lot of damage frequently. So much so that it often felt like a losing battle, like you said it's hard to pull yourself out of a bad situation, I'd meathook into a zombie and pick up some health and armor, and just immediately lose it and more the moment after picking it up.
The Blood Maykrs were the biggest pain. Their yellow beam attack they do when they're shielded is so fast and tracks you so damn well. And the off chance of turning a corner right into one, and getting hit by its close range attack was also devastating. But their attack while in their vulnerable state was the worst since it slows your movement. My strat was to listen out for the sound it makes when they're in their vulnerable state, and then quickly observe my surroundings, and if I don't see it, I'll keep moving, but try to avoid turning any corners, and count to 5 seconds in my head before moving around again, and that worked reasonably well for avoiding them. But because for one I didn't know where they were, seeking them out when I could hear them in vulnerable state wasn't a great idea because I didn't want to risk the chance of them finding me first and hitting me from behind. Then I'm flustered, I go for the PB shot, either miss, or shoot just as it puts its shield back up, and then because I'm both slowed down, and focused on precision shooting one enemy, I've opened myself up to getting hammered on by the lost souls, and the Dread Knight. So bad times all around. All in all this whole boss took me an hour and a half to beat.
His pofilter is on sideways that hurts me
For anyone interested in doing UN, this is one of those bosses you really have to practice having everything go wrong in. Makyr Angels do about 100 damage in melee in addition to their powerful range attacks, and they can hop up to your platform faster than you may expect in phase 4 and 5 (they can spawn in a multitude of places). Know where the health and armor platforms are, and keep track of what you pick up in phase 4 as it may not be there in phase 5.
What helped me succeed on my run was practicing moving around the phase 4-5 arena and learning how to come back from nearly no health, essentially waiting to reengage until I have room for error again. Don't lose nerve if you have to use the max health/armor powerup in phase 4, as the normal pain elementals in phase 5 are extremely useful here as meathook swings and quick armor (note you don't have to be terribly close when doing the SS blast).
Your main enemy in this 5-phase gauntlet is going to be your nerves, but here's my best advice in addition to what Allstin says for keeping them cool in each phase:
1. Samur likes to teleport, and he too does big melee damage. If you take a hit, you can revolve around the zombies. Flame belch will never kill them, and given time you can recover the health. Eyeballs only do damage in close proximity, and they aren't nearly as strong.
2. The hell knight goes down fast to rockets. Like Allstin says, it's easy to separate the mancubus around corners. If the mancubus does hit you, you can re-farm health, armor, and ammo off the basic hell knights/zombies that spawn until you are ready. Remember: THERE IS NO TIME LIMIT (except phase 3 lol), GO AT YOUR OWN PACE. Samur again drops health and ammo, but cannot be flame belched.
3. This is your breather. Dazed and Confused is mvp here. You can farm lost armor off of stunned Cacodeamons with little threat. Be warned though, there is no cutscene between phases 3 and 4! Samur will immediately and always spawn on the same platform (back tall platform across phase 3 start) and he will melee you immediately if you are there too! I find ending phase 3 on the low side platforms to be ideal, it's a prime Samur-shooting and Makyr Angel-watching spot.
4. Samur won't spawn eyeballs until he's at about 60-50% health (recall his bar does not go all the way down before a phase ends), so if you need to recover, do it before shooting Samur. Don't hesitate on the max health/armor if you think you need it–a lot of things can shoot you from a lot of angles. Chaingun dps is fine on Samur, and the shield can prevent you from needing to recover in the first place. It is ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL that you end this fight with at least 75 energy ammo for the pain elemental spirit. If things go well you will only need about 50 chaingun ammo at the start of the next phase.
5. Immediately, like first frame post cutscene, slap chrono strike on, equip bfg, and blast that pain elemental directly. Bfg takes a sec to fire a second time, but blast the pain elemental again directly. Direct impact, even with the huge resistance these possessed have, does massive damage. After shot 2 the pain elemental will normally be so close to death that he'll die (not get stunned) with just a second or two of chaingun. Either now or after killing the spirit, equip dazed and confused for the Dread Knight. Makyr angels and the respawning pain elemental can push you around, and you want to make sure that dread knight won't unstun.
This fight is a marathon, not a sprint. Practice each part and prepare for sudden surprises in melee-range, and you'll be just fine! If you made this far, you CAN do it!
I swear to god those eyes were the worst. Even on the upper plattforms you'll constantly get hit.
So many UN hours down the drain. I finally beat it on console tho (it's so much harder than on PC.)
Definitely won't take it off until the second DLC.
I had to do some coke before my UN run just to beat it.
Phase 5 on nightmare kicked my ass rather hard mainly because I entered it without any rockets or armor. What carried me through it are micromissles. You can annihilation possessed knight by spending 100-150 worth of ammo on them, and pain elemental on his own isn't that much of a treat.
I probably died over 100 times(not an exaggeration, literally over 100) in the last phase on nightmare. That blood angel just deletes me when I try to kill the spirit with the microwave beam. I managed to beat it by pure luck and I have 0 confidence in beating this fight on ultra nightmare.
Thanks for the vid, some great tips!. I managed to complete the DLC on nightmare and what worked for me as a good starter in phase 4 is immediately meathook him, as you travel towards him throw grenades, as you reach him double bloodpunch (throw a shotgun blast in also). This can take about half of his life in one go.
I love the game and i really really love the dlc. But imo the boss isnt that enjoyable. All the bosses arent that great, idk…
shoot that's really helpful
thanks
Great guide, thanks for the breakdown. Gonna start grinding out UN now!
wtf i didn't know Mr Beast was teaching Doom Eternal on a new channel, that's awesome. Subbed.
mine is glitched as hell.. there is only four panel that i can walk on and the rest is electric water. i cant kill the spirits cause they are way too high up. they cant even possessed the demon because they fall in the water below its pure trash.
i might be the only one thinking this but the frequent appearance of that one picture with the audio is rly annoying and is actually giving me a headache. I rly like your content but th at makes it rly hard to watch or just even to listen to. Would be n1 if u could remove that but just ignore me if i am the only one thinking that.
Thanks bro I finally beat it today, really helpful vid.
Does chainsaw shield still protect you from all sides? I know they changed it for battlemode but idk how it works in singleplayer.
Also do you know if the shield works on mancubus and dreadnight groundpounds?
That part with the Dread Night and the Pain Elemental is the bane of my existence. Great video!
I stopped using Chrono Strike for the DLC because I thought it was a crutch I'd been abusing in the base game. But I feel like after playing through all this, the devs definitely wanted you to not be thinking like that. I made it to the last phase before caving and finally using sentinel armor.
Yeah, I figured out that Possessed enemies aren't staggered by jack shit pretty quickly, and died not long after that.
I tried using the chaingun shield then as i go closer to him i blood punched him and it was so much effective, he lost a lot of health
i regret buying the deluxe edition, should have got standard.
Thanks for this guide. This fight really frustrates me, especially when Samur and the Blood Maykr stun lock me. I thought the Blood Maykr respawned faster so I never really targeted him before. In the future I will do so
you can take down Samur in the 1st and 3rd rounds with the chaingun. You can use the shield mod for protection or you can whip out the mobile turret for maximum damage if you're feeling courageous. It seems the longer you drag the 3rd battle out the larger the chances that Samur will teleport on top of you and eat up all of your health.
Has anyone tried the plasma gun with the beam mod on Samur? I wonder if that works on him.
I tried like 50 times to first kill the Dread Night and then the Pain Elemental without superweapons. It didn't work that well. By the time I killed the Dread Night the Pain elemental was always on top of me with that stupid Blood Maykr. But if you focus on the pain elemental first you can deal to it enough damage with the chaingun & rockets before the Dread Night arrives. What about using the Unmaykr on the Pain elemental? It seems to do as much damage to it as the bfg.
Finally got the dlc. Possessed pain elementals can go to hell.
I feel like this boss fight is going to be a pick-nick after passing the new Slayer Gate…
10 seconds to possess? what difficulty are you playing? for me if I'm not hitting em with the beam they're in another demon in like 5 seconds
Idk if both lighting break and zero master are even human
Second last phase I kinda cheesed. In the beginning meathook bloodpunch then shoot ssg once and he will be at almost half health. Helps start off strong.
Just did it. It was my first time so I farmed a lot of extra lives before going in, 13 I think. Lost them in phase 1 and 4. The caco thing was easy as expected and I had no problems with the possessed Mancubus and Hell Knight. Went into the finale without lives and managed in the third try. I think I was 1 second away from dying when the spirit exploded. Lucky.
Thanks for the help.
What about lock-on on samur and powered micro-missles on the spirits?
6.66k subs lol
thanks for the guide dude, just finished the DLC on UN and it's thanks to your help, let Ancient Gods 2 come, I'm ready
Good strategy, but again none of the quick swapping combo are remotely as fast or effective on console. PC gamers can just go down the number pad and swap weapons much faster. We have to use different tactics. Unfortunately Ancient Gods Part 1 disproportionately favors PC.
Not my favorite boss, must say..
Nice breakdown 👏😌
At the end of this video I’d like to see the entire fight after you just broke it down, or watch each phase uninterrupted after you broke it down so we can see you applying the things you just talked about
Hey allstin great vid man thanks! I learnt that I should shoot the bfg from far awat and as direct as possible, still this phase 5 seems a bit rng. You have to be fast and perfect and have saving throw up or you are definitely screwed?
One question: Does the microwave beam into double frag and double blood punch damage the possessed dread knight a lot? Did it get him into gk state a few times for you, or did you not test this yourself?
Man eternal quickly became one of my favorite games of all time and I was so stoked and so ready for ancient gods DLC completely unexpected to me so a very welcome surprise it installed and I played within minutes of its release and honestly this fight for some reason to me was so intense and so stressful I quit which I don’t do in games very often but I legit quit and said F it. Now that part 2 is coming out soon it’s got me wanting to finish part one completely before I even think about the second and just thinking about this fight now makes me cringe.
Micro missiles and lock on rockets and ballista fuck up the possessed pain elemental pretty safely and quickly
THANK YOU MAN!!!
I beated the DLc on ultra nughtmare following all your advices. You definitely have a new suscriber 😉
I was searching a video literally in front of the samur door to fight with him.
I dont know how to thank you enough
You rock dude!!
I literally can’t fucking do it I hate it so fucking much i want to actually kill someone 😡🤬
