A comment in the video below says that the boss possessed demons have 99.9% more damage resistance to BFG tendrils – so this means you’ll want to make that direct hit!
I’ve been a fan, as mentioned, of getting close. Even with the stun from the tendrils, 2 close direct hits is nearly enough to finish the pain elemental. Safer than far away maybe! I’m really liking that method!

I just finished the DLC on Nightmare. I had to use Sentinel Armor…

The only hard part is the last phase. If you go in without sufficient ammo at the start it can be troublesome. What helped me is to abuse the portals so that the possessed demons couldn't catch me as easily.
for my first playthrough, i killed the mancubus first because in my head i thought since it was a heavy unit, it would be easier to kill the hell knight without the mancubus interfering everytime. fortunately the hell knight didn't kill me while i was killing the mancubus, but i still changed it up with my second playthrough.

Fun Fact: If you look on the Auto-Map for the Equestrian Holt, you can see that the Luminarium is built upon an Archangel.
The Archangels were those massive cross-like structures that we saw orbiting Maykrland. There were only two and acted to protect the Maykrs.
I guess after the Icon was awakened and the seal broken, Hell was able to completely demolish them, as a lot of the Maykr structures are in ruin and overgrown.
I did the final phase on my first try (after quitting because I was getting my ass handed to me) without BFG. Portal and Energy Shield abuse are your friends, Arbalest for the pain elemental is actually really good, use it with your Mic Beam stun to get a headstart. Remember to get him to low health and chainsaw a guy before you're ready to bust his spirit. Also QQ, will a chainsaw kill immediately kill a Possessed demon? I've been meaning to try that. May even work better than the BFG strat. Or you could BFG the PE and chainsaw the Dread Knight afterwards. Those eyes and Maykrs are giving you plenty of ammunition per round, so chainsawing isn't necessary. Something I've been meaning to test.
