How do you get the sheriff mod on the non-Steam version of among us? (I downloaded among us on my PC without steam)

I installed and when I open it up it shows on the top left side that its the Sheriff mod and everything. I join a lobby with people who also have the mod but when the game starts the screen thats supposed to tell me what roll i have is just all black. I hear everything going on but cant see anything. Anyone experiencing the same thing?? Help??
